Dennis H.
Miller
Vice Chairman of the Board
Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd.
Prior
to being named IAIS' Vice Chairman of the Board in March 2012, Mr. Miller
served as President and CEO of the railroad for the last 10 years, overseeing operations, information systems, and customer services. During
his tenure as President, IAIS grew from 45,000 to over 125,000
carloads annually and oversaw capital improvements in excess of
$100M. The company is also one of the safest railroads, having won
three E.H. Harriman awards, including 2 Gold medals.
Mr. Miller joined IAIS in 1985 and previously served as Vice
President of Information Systems, Customer Services and Operations.
His strong operating, analytical and business skills led to the development of
a computer-aided dispatching software that was marketed through Rail Traffic Control
Inc. with installations in the U.S. and worldwide. Mr. Miller served
as President of RTC.
Mr. Miller commenced his railroad career in 1973 working as an
operator and wire-chief for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific
Railroad. He then served in various operating positions for 10 years
with the Peoria
& Pekin Union Railway. While at PPU, he was involved in safety programs that resulted in 2
Harriman awards in 1979 and 1980.
Mr. Miller is a certified electronic technician,
certified in COBOL and RPG programming. He graduated from Kirkwood
Community College and Illinois Central College with an AAS degree in Data
Processing Technology and Programming.
